Black Tea Brewing

The process of brewing black tea is pretty simple. Just follow the steps below for a good cup of black tea. One thing to keep in mind is that different teas have different brewing instructions. For example, most black teas use boiling water, whereas, most green teas use hot, but not boiling water to brew.
  • Start with fresh water. Many black tea enthusiasts prefer filted water.
  • Most black teas recommend you bring the water to a boil.
  • Choose the correct amount of tea for you application. Most teas will have a recommendation of how much loose tea or how many tea bags to use. If you are using tea bags, usually use 1 tea bag per cup of water.
  • Allow the black tea to steep / brew for 3-5 minutes. Your specific tea may come with a recommendation for this as well.
  • Let the tea cool for a few minutes and enjoy

A few other tips are trying not to oversteep your tea. This can make for a bitter taste. One more tip, if you are using loose tea, is to give the loose tea room to expand in the water. Last, if you are brewing tea to make iced tea, you will want to make your tea stronger as the ice will melt fast and mix with the tea.
